Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 6 - Redefining Fat

"This HealthType (The Guardian) is the opportunity to change our industry and the way we talk about fat tissue"
Cam McDonald, CEO, Precision Healthcare Alliance

Body image. Shame. Societial expectations and norms.

How many women (and men) feel ashamed of their body if they don't fit the 'ideal' image of beauty, size or health?

I've spent my whole life self-conscious about my body, worrying about my weight, constantly trying to be slim.

It feels like it's been the bain of my life.

I've gone on every diet under the sun... keto, paleo, weightwatchers, the Atkins diet, fasting, calorie counting, intermittent fasting, you name it, I probably tried it somewhere along the line if it was in vogue.

Constantly watching what I eat, weight going up and down like a yoyo, and more recently since menopause not really going down.

I can look at a carrot and put on a pound.

At times I've been happy with my weight, but mostly, since the age of 13, I've held extra pounds in certain areas, par...

Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 5 - Your HealthCode™

Understanding HealthTypes™ and Individual Differences

Stop fighting yourself and start working with your biology

One of the most important foundations of Precision Healthcare is understanding one simple truth:

We are all different.

When health is approached from the assumption that everyone is the same, outcomes are limited, and can even exacerbate problems, because what is right for one person is not necessarily going to be optimal for someone else.

For example:

  • eating protein may be extremely healthy for one HealthType™ but not for another
  • exercise early morning may suit and be highly beneficial for one HealthType™, but very stressful and non-beneficial for someone else
  • whilst eating carbs may be necessary for a 'Sensor' HealthType™ it is likely to have adverse digestive effects for a 'Guardian' HealthType™

So the Precision Health model begins by recognising differences - and then progressively refining how this is understood.

A reminder summary:

The six HealthT...

Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 4 - HealthTypes™

Continuing on with our foray into Personalized Precision Healthcare...

Now we'll start looking at the various HealthTypes™ which we can be, depending on which germ layer grew dominantly when we were in the womb.

Depending on which of the 3 germ layers grew dominantly (endoderm (outer), mesoderm (middle) or ectoderm (inner)), we develop into a different morphology (body structure and type). We are literally the physical and mental manifestation of our embryonic and hormonal development!

How we grow in the womb makes us different as individuals - physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically... creating our morphology and phenotype (discussed in previous posts - see below).

The different germ layer formation also causes a dominance in different hormones, which also affects on our personality, goals and desires. For example, a HealthType™ with a dominance in testosterone will make us naturally more competitive or aggressive. So endocrinology and morophology affect personality and ...

Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 3 - Embryology

What happens in the womb has an ongoing domino effect on the rest of your life

Did you watch the 'Divergent' film trilogy?

If you did, you will remember in the first film, we were shown a society where people are divided into 5 distinct factions, each one dedicated to cultivating a specific virtue in order to maintain peace. In the series, every person in society is assigned to a faction based on their innate skills and talents:

For example, due to their incorruptible nature and selflessness, 'Abnegation' (The Selfless) traditionally run the government (gosh wouldn't that be nice in real life, lol), whilst 'Erudite' (The Intelligent) are logical, knowledgeable and intelligent, and act as society's scientists, researchers, and educators.*

The point here, in relation to personalized Precision Healthcare, is that each person is born with unique values, virtues and talents, which means they all think and behave differently according to these innate qualities. Their individual makeup ...

Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 2 - Your Phenotype

PHENOTYPE: The science of what makes you YOU

I have to admit, I was never a very 'sciency' person at school.

I remember lessons were divided into 'biology' (which I enjoyed and was quite good at) and 'chemistry' (which I found really hard).

It didn't help that the chemistry teacher favoured the real 'brainy' people in the class, ignoring students like myself who just couldn't get to grips with formulas and numbers. So I fell behind and lost interest in chemistry, and eventually gave it up.

I mention this so you know I'm not an expert when it comes to what I am about to share, and I'm still on a learning curve myself.

However, in terms of understanding personalized Precision Healthcare, it's really important to understand some of these concepts, and actually quite fascinating when one gets a handle on them.

What makes a person different?

As mentioned previously in part 1, we are all unique, and respond differently to what happens to us in our life, all of us creating our own ...

Personalized Precision Healthcare - part 1 - How it all began

2026 is my 20 year anniversary of helping people solve complex health problems which keep them awake at night, and distressed or inconvenienced during the day.

20 years is quite a stretch of time.

When I inadvertently started offering sessions all those years ago, I had no idea that two decades later I'd still be doing it. I didn't even know back then that I'd last more than a year.

In fact, when I started, it wasn't what I planned to be doing at all.

When I started seeing clients, you might imagine it was because I proactively decided I wanted to be a therapist. Nope - that's not how it was...

When I started seeing clients, I'd just come through the other side of a 20 year journey of healing myself from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and clinical depression, plus a swag of other diagnosed health conditions, which had taken me on a journey of being unable to work for 10 years, and trying and testing over 250 different therapies on my quest to find answers.

I had sold my house to...

Body Burden - How do we detox our chemical load?

detox May 26, 2026

I've just finished watching Nick Pinault's new documentary 'Body Burden' (free to watch this week only).

In the film he shares his personal journey to detoxify his body of accumulated garbage, in particular heavy metals, and the noticeable difference it made to his health.

Nick visited a specialist clinic in the USA, which no doubt is quite pricey for most people. The result of his trip was a noticeable increase in energy and mental stamina.

After he finished filming and being the guinea pig for Body Burden, he knew people would want to know more, and in particular how to instigate similar detox protocols for themselves.

The problem is… doing it by yourself can create overwhelm and confusion.

Realizing people needed the right guidance and that not everyone can afford to visit the clinic, Nick sat down with 'Dr B' from the documentary and put together a detox guide.

Dr. Michael Bauerschmidt, known to his patients as “Dr. B,” is a board-certified environmental medicine physician...

Biological Decoding - A new paradigm in healthcare

BIOLOGICAL DECODING.

A holistic approach to managing, reversing and healing symptoms of physical or mental illness.

I've been studying and applying this approach for myself and others for 30 years now, and I LOVE it.

Every year I learn more, and it never ceases to fascinate me how complex and intelligent the body is.

So what is this non-invasive root-cause healthcare approach, and more to the point, why have so few people heard of it?

Biological Decoding

Biological decoding is the art and science of decoding the hidden meaning and messages in symptoms, to arrive at the real root cause(s), so that the body can instigate its self-healing mechanisms, which will not properly engage until and unless we understand and recognize these root causes.

Biological Decoding is a therapeutic approach which interprets physical symptoms as meaningful expressions of unresolved biological conflicts, shifting the focus from symptom suppression to understanding the body's communication.

Symptoms...

The plastic brain - giving new meaning to 'neuro-plasticity'

Scientists discover microplastics equivalent to a plastic spoon in brains

You've probably heard about "microplastics" contaminating the environment as well as the inside of our bodies.

But here's something many are still not aware of:

The May 2025 issue of Brain Medicine shows a striking cover: a human brain dotted with colorful microplastic particles next to a plastic spoon.

The finding?

Human brains may contain about “a spoonful” of microplastic material. (1)

Of course, this is just ONE toxin we are exposed to on a daily basis. There’s also lead, mercury, cadmium, PCBs, PFAS, and a laundry list of other contaminants that are known to accumulate in the human body faster than our ability to get rid of them.

What can we do about it? Is it possible to lower this “Body Burden”, even in this modern, polluted environment?

This is the question that Nick Pineault had in mind when he went to an environmental medicine clinic to investigate whether their claims about helping people wit...

Are you ageing well?

metabolism weightloss Apr 19, 2026

Your body isn’t static.

It’s always adapting...

🥗 To how you eat.
🏃 To how you move.
🔁 To what you repeat.

Over time, those signals add up.

More muscle… or less.
A faster metabolism… or a slower one.
A body that feels capable… or one that feels harder to support.

In Age Powerfully, renowned nutrition expert and Fitness Hall of Famer JJ Virgin focuses on the signals that matter most. The ones that tell your body to build, not break down

In this course, you’ll discover:
→ Why muscle is central to metabolism, energy, and long-term health
→ How protein supports muscle, satiety, and stable blood sugar
→ Simple meal frameworks that remove guesswork
→ How resistance training helps you build and preserve muscle
→ Why sleep and stress shape how your body responds

Through practical, repeatable habits, JJ shows how small inputs can shift how your body adapts over time.

Because when your body is given the right signals, it doesn’t just maintain. It improves.... Helping you build a stronge...
